Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
