An extensive two-month voyage through Australia was terminated in the wake of the death of an older woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a isolated coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a rest. The liner left without her and came back several hours later after the crew realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

Head of the cruise operator said that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Authorities also released an latest statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Commander" banning any additional guests from getting on the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its return.
