Why the Democratic Party Has Concealed its 2024 Election Autopsy: The Inside Story.

The decision from the Democratic National Committee to withhold the public viewing regarding its internal post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election seems stunning yet not surprising. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the DNC operates closer to a publicity machine rather than an electoral entity focused on building local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Climate Resistant to Internal Critique

Unwilling to challenge the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has remained within the Biden-Harris shadow all through this past year. Releasing an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether the leadership are interested to promote public discourse about the strategic failures that enabled the former president to win re-election. Instead, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there are no lessons to glean from the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

The top priority: does this help us win? If the answer is no, it is an unnecessary diversion from what truly matters," a justification reportedly given to justify concealing the analysis.

Key Issues an Autopsy Could Have Examined

Any valuable post-mortem with any value would confront key points of failure. These include:

  • Electoral Alienation: The loss among a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 became a critical factor in the close recent race.
  • A Choice to Run: The stubborn decision of a party leader to stay in the race, and an extremely delayed step-aside, has been criticized as denying Democratic voters the chance for open primaries.
  • Losing Touch With Everyday Americans: While facing economic anxiety, the campaign allegedly accommodating elite contributors while failing to confront the effects of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Factor: The refusal to shift a stance on the situation in Gaza is cited as alienating many voters, especially with young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Young Voter Backing: Research indicates a significant decline of votes for the candidate from voters aged 18-29.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

This refusal is consistent with a recurring tendency of sidestepping hard truths. This mirrors a dynamic in which nearly all elected Democrat in Congress acquiesced to an incumbent's insistence on seeking another term right up until a catastrophic campaign event compelled a reversal.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers of the electorate had been repeatedly informing pollsters that they did not want that candidate to be the nominee.

Campaign Spending Issues

A substantive report could investigate issues about financial allocations, such as how much money went to insider consultants and ad buyers during a campaign that burned through a colossal amount during the general election.

The Larger Issue

At its core, the blockage of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a deference toward the existing power structure who engineered a losing national race. The implication for ordinary supporters – including countless small donors – is that they cannot have a right to see the lessons party chiefs claim to have learned from hundreds of interviews compiled from feedback from all states.

A political entity unwilling to honestly assess where it went wrong is unlikely to climb out of the pattern which was so advantageous to the winning candidate.
